First, I have a ranking for stats on cards that I break down into Tiers.
Tier 1: Skill Cool down, All Attack, Defense Penetration
Tier 2: Energy Attack, Physical Attack
Tier 2.5: Attack Speed
Tier 3: Critical Damage
Tier 4: Anything else that's not a resist
Tier 5: Resists
If someone wants to argue about the best stats, that's fine, opinions can vary, but that's my view above. Really after Attack Speed, I don't care too much what else I get.

There are no cards that have cool down, def pen, all attack, physical attack, and energy attack on them. So at best you will get four of the 5 tier 1 and 2 skills.

Next when building cards, equip your first good card, then build a replacement in inventory of the same type, and then reroll it. If you are working on Loki, make sure every 6 star card you build is Loki, so that you get two shots with every build to get what you want, the initial build and the reroll of a 6 star loki in inventory. Never reroll equipped cards. Also, it is my thought that stats change less when upgrading then rerolling, this may be confirmation bias, but if I'm working on Loki and I have 6 5 star Lokis in inventory I will always upgrade the one closest to the stats I want.

One last thing before we get to the best cards to try and the strategy. Remember that it may take well over 100 rerolls of a mythical card to get a perfect version. So if you get a "good" card that isn't on the list below but has great variable rolls (Drax, Thors, Shanar, Secret Wars, or any other) that better hits the above table then the cards listed below, use it until you can roll a better version of one of the below cards. Many, many cards are viable inbetween.

Now on to the cards you should get.

For beginners, I'd recommend not focusing on getting mythical (rank 6 cards) right away, but instead focus on getting good rank 4 cards. This will be a lot faster and get you better stats before you get into the crazy reroll game of rank 6 cards. Assuming you go with four star cards of the below and keep collecting versions of the below until you get the variable stats you want, then you will be in good shape. Note with Marvel Zombies that you need to have a heroic+ rift where you get additional card rewards to get this one.

Loki: Def pen in 3, attack speed in 4 is optional, if you get a 3 star with def pen equip it, then work on the 4 star with def pen and attack speed
Zombies: Def pen or energy attack in 4, since you can't as easily farm zombies, you might just equip the first one you get, and then work on getting def pen/energy attack afterwards.
Starlord: Physical attack in 3, Skill cool down in 4
Groot: Energy attack in 3, skill cool down in 4
Nebula: All Attack in 3, skill cool down in 4

If you have some of the cards from chests and get a civil war #3 or civil war #4, those are also good beginner cards. Civil War #3 has cool down as a fixed stat and physical attack in slot 3. It also has energy attack and all attack in 6, if you get one with two attacks then it can hold you off for quite awhile. Civil War #4 has all attack as a fixed stat and physical attack in 3, cool down in 4, and energy attack/defpen in 6. I don't focus on these as beginner cards, because you can't easily farm them so doing the rerolling lots of them to get a good low card strategy won't work. However, if you luck into one, then just be aware that they are viable alternatives too.

This is a sample of what this looks like. You have lots of defense penetration which will help you with world bosses, and some attack bonuses (though not particularly good ones), your skill cool down will be high enough to allow you keep all the highly immune chars near max immunity which is really the most important facet of what you are trying to do early.

After you get this basic set up, stat reworking one card at a time to a higher level. The 5th slot in most cards is near worthless, so really, you want to then get a mythical card that has a good sixth slot without giving up your good slots on the first four, easier said then done, but at least you have quality slots for now.

My end game free cards probably look like one of the next two sets. The first is heavy with defense penetration and it could be argued it is too much defense penetration. Note that even rolling one card that has perfect stats is really hard, so you might take mythical cards with 2 good random rolls or even one good random roll if it is the right roll over the 4 star cards listed above. You'll slowly progress towards these types of cards, but the key is slowly.

This requires a lot of rerolling, and it is pretty light on physical attack, you could swap Loki to have physical attack instead of energy attack in the last slot, to go to 11.1 in both.

With this stack, if you get POAH as your attack ISO set on your characters, your pre-gear def pen will be near the cap already, and your attack speed will be 22%, then you can use attack speed and skill cool down in gears to get to the cap of def pen, attack speed, and cool down with each character.

The alternate build with civil war, this gives less defense penetration and more all attack. Since defense penetration caps out at 50% this can be preferable as you won't hit the cap on def pen if more def pen adding features are there in the game or for chars who get def pen naturally on gears and are now over the limit. I choose to swap out Nebula because it has the lowest all attack, but you could swap out starlord or groot too for similar results if you rolled a better starlord or groot:

You are trading 9% def pen for 4% all attack and 5% physical attack more or less. I don't think that's a great trade off viewing the value of the stats, but when looking at the overall build it may be worth it. To some extent it also depends how great your build is otherwise. Say you roll a Loki with Energy attack and attack speed but not def pen. You might then want to keep four def pen cards, but if you have loki with def pen and attack speed but no attack stat you might choose to go with civil war.

For those with deep pockets and access, you can also buy the Korean art book cards. The art books cost $30 a piece and come with a code that gives you one of five cards. These cards have 3 fixed stats (though the same quality levels) instead of two with generally elite stats in the fixed areas. For that reason, they are much, much easier to reroll, because you are typically only rolling for one or two stats instead of 3 (ie, 1 in 25 chance of a perfect roll instead of 1 in 125).

The artbook cards are sometimes on ebay for $100 or so and there are sometimes people on reddit or line who will buy them for a smaller mark up.

If using art book cards, you can now get 5 of the 6 quality stats on each card instead of 4 like most of the free cards outside of Loki. There are three artbook cards in an end game set: Amazing Spiderman, Avengers ANAD, and Avengers Thor. Guardians of the Galaxy isn't an end game card per se, but with two luky rolls it is more or less the equivalent of a 3 lucky roll starlord/groot/nebula. If you got a guardians, it probably would be in your kit for a very, very long time if you did get the two variable rolls. Anyway, here's a look at what two different art book card builds might look like. The real difference is whether you roll def pen or energy attack on Avengers Thor as there aren't any real choices on the other cards. Note, if you roll Loki with physical attack then swap starlord with Groot.

I'm presently reworking Avengers Thor to try and reroll for Attack Speed + Energy Attack or Defense penetration. If I get one with both stats, then I will probably work on replacing Starlord with Groot since my Loki is rolled with physical attack instead of energy attack to better balance them (especially if i roll def pen + attack speed). Alternately, I might try rerolling Loki since it is the only quality 3 card in my deck and could add attack speed to it.

Compared to the first build, I'm 7% all attack low, 6% physical attack high, and 10.8% attack speed off. It's playing at the edges to try and improve it much more for me, and I don't go out of my way to build cards anymore to reroll because it is so resource intensive for what is likely a very low chance of improving, but as I slowly collect the resources I will keep at it.
